Beauty tips for a bride

After all the planning, stress and excitement, looking great on your big day is the last thing you want to worry about. There is surprisingly a lot that goes towards the beauty side of things, and as a stylist, beautician and make-up artist, I always advise my clients of some common errors that can be made as they are not so obvious. Here are some beauty tips for the bride:

1. Facial, Hair Removal and Tanning

If you intend to have a facial, the most common mistake brides make is to have it the day before the wedding so that they look fresh and radiant for the wedding day. Whilst this logic makes complete sense, you should really have it 2 weeks before the wedding. This is because, a facial typically cleanses the face by opening up the pores and removing the dirt. Consequently, it can be common to experience some redness and spots on the face - this isn't necessarily a bad thing and your skin will settle with time but, it's not really the look you would be going for as the bride!

This 2 week period also allows for any possible allergic reactions - usually a professional beautician will use natural based products so the chances of this is little, but not nil.

The same applies for threading, waxing or any other form of hair removal - although 2 weeks may be too long - maybe around 4 days instead.

When it comes to tanning, if you go for spray, cream or DIY job, you should definitely do it around 2 weeks beforehand. It is all too common for the tan to be uneven or too strong, so this time frame allows for time for it to fade, be topped up or even removed. Just don't forget to let your make-up artist know, or check your foundation, as with your skin colour change, you will need a colour matched foundation too!

2. Hair and Make-Up

If you are having your hair and make-up done always go for a Trial run! Do not accept companies who say they will only do half a face or anything like that, always insist on having the whole thing done as though it were on the day itself, so that you can see what the final result looks like, check its staying power, and see how long it takes - all before parting with your money for the booking.

It is best to have your Trial run a minimum of 3 months before the wedding date so that you have enough time to change your mind or accommodate any changes. However, it is not worth having your Trial until your outfit and jewellery is finalised, as these play a big influence on your hair and make-up.

Also, although your make-up artist should ask, always let them know if you plan to go on holiday to anywhere where you could catch the sun or, as mentioned before, are planning to get a fake tan done, so that they can come fully prepared.

3. Nails

Manicures and pedicures are a relaxing way to put the finishing touches to your beauty regime, so for your mental well being, it is often great to have this done the day before the wedding. This gives you the opportunity to get away from all the stress and just relax and spend some time on yourself.
