Choice of the perfect wedding dress for your figure

The choice of wedding dresses on the market is overwhelming and it is easy to get carried away but before you do - stop! Don't throw away all the things you have learnt about wearing clothes that flatter your figure! Regardless of your figure, the abundance of wedding dress styles means that your are guaranteed to find one that suits you, and if you can't, you can always get one especially made.

The following is a guide to what styles of wedding dresses would suit you based on your body shape:

Hour Glass

You have an hour glass figure if you have a relatively small waist and larger curvier hips - such as, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.

Your idea wedding dress style would be a mermaid shaped one, this is, one which has a fitted top, like a corset, and a fishtail bottom half. Another style that would look nice, is the ball gown styled wedding dress which is one of the most traditional styles. Although this would not make the most of your curves, it would be a flattering look as your have a small waist.

A-line dresses, where the skirt flares our diagonally in the shape of a capital 'A' wouldn't look too bad, but it would hide your natural curves, therefore making you look shapeless, whilst accentuating your hips to look larger than they are. Equally baby doll style dresses, which are loose from below the bust, are neither flattering nor unflattering to an hour glass figure.

Styles to definitely stay away from are straight cut dresses, sometimes referred to as 'sheath', as they are likely to make you look plump.

Straight

If your figure is straight, whereby you do not have curvy hips or bottom, you should aim to go for dresses that create the illusion of curves - in the right places.

Your ideal shape would be an A-line cut dress or the traditional ball gown wedding dress. This will be fitted enough to give your top half shape, but its bottom flare will add some shape to your bottom half. Straight cut and baby doll dresses are okay, but they will accentuate your lack of curves, so they are not ideal.

Steer clear of mermaid style wedding dresses as they will hang off you which will be extremely unflattering, especially around your hip and bottom areas.

Pear

If your body shape is pear shaped, then you have narrow set shoulders with wide hips. For this reason, A-line wedding dresses can be perfect in catering for your natural shape, as would a ball gown styled dress.

Steer clear from straight cuts and mermaid style dresses as these will not accentuate your slender top half enough, and will over-accentuate your hips.

Full

If you are full figured, the best type of wedding dress to opt for is the traditional ball gown style. This is because it slims your top half whilst hiding the fullness of your mid-drift and bottom half.

All the other styles are likely to make you look too wide or, in the case of the baby doll styled dress, will make your mid-drift look larger.
